Help Carolina Winds Resort Support Backpack Buddies to Feed Area Children

By Carolina Winds | Wednesday, August 28th, 2013

Carolina Winds Resort has taken an initiative this fall to support Help4Kids and their Backpack Buddies program, a Myrtle Beach and Horry County based program that aims to assist children in need. Each week the Backpack Buddies program provides a package of food for over 2,000 area children to take home on Friday so that they have food to eat over the weekend. Carolina Wind Resort's campaign to support the Backpack Buddies program will run through September and will allow guests the opportunity to make a small donation at check in or at the time of booking and Carolina Winds will make a matching contribution.

Executive Director Barb Mains established the organization in 1989 to provide basic necessities to the children of the working poor in Horry County and later introduced the Backpack Buddies program in 2004. Mains said "We have been very fortunate to have the community support our program, but in these difficult economic times we've had more children with need in our area and less individuals and businesses who are able to contribute to our program. We are excited to have Carolina Winds running the campaign to help raise both funds and awareness for our program." The Backpack Buddies program and the Help4Kids organization is made up completely of volunteers.

Carolina Winds Resort is hoping to help the Backpack Buddies reach every child in need. JW Smith of Carolina Winds commented, "We are fortunate that we are able to support such a worthy cause like Backpack Buddies and we want to do whatever we can to assist their efforts. It is inspiring to see what Barb and her team with on their own time to help all of these children in need. It certainly was an easy decision by our ownership, management and staff to jump head first into this campaign to assist the Backpack Buddies program."

While all guests will be given the opportunity to make a donation at the time of booking and at check-in, all others who are interested in making a donation, however big or small, to the Help4Kids fundraising drive can call Carolina Winds or Help4Kids at 843-651-4310 to do so.
